Report: Holocaust denial widespread in Russia

(JTA) -- Holocaust denial is a widespread phenomenon in Russia, especially on the Internet, a report said. At least four Russian Web sites are devoted to Holocaust denial, according to the report published on the eve of international Holocaust Memorial Day.

According to the report, by the Moscow-based Holocaust Foundation and the Moscow Bureau on Human Rights, one of the Web sites, www.revisio.msk.ru, contains 400 pieces of Holocaust revisionist writings and video clips. Holocaust-denying books are also widely available at Russian book stores, the study said.

In a related development, human rights and Jewish activists have called on federal authorities to designate Jan. 27 as Holocaust Remembrance Day in Russia. There has been no reaction from officials.
