Moscow confirms policy to eradicate anti-Semitism

MOSCOW - (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed Russia's policy of eradication of ethnic and religious extremism, including anti-Semitism, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko.

In reply to questions from Russian media concerning a recent anti- Semite petition to the Prosecutor General's Office, in which its authors asked that the activity of certain Jewish organizations be restricted in Russia, Yakovenko, in particular, said, "I believe the Prosecutor General's Office will properly assess this action."

"Our policy of eradicating interethnic and religious intolerance, including attempts to fuel anti-Semitism, remains consistent and unchanged. President Vladimir Putin clearly confirmed it while taking part in the ceremony in Poland marking the 60th anniversary of the Auschwitz death camp liberation by Soviet troops," Yakovenko said.
