U.S. official, Russian Jews discuss preservation

(JTA) — Cemetery restoration was among topics discussed by a U.S. preservation official and leaders of the St. Petersburg Jewish community.

Warren Miller, chairman of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad, met Sunday with leaders of the St. Petersburg Jewish community to discuss a working partnership between the commission and Russia’s Jewish communities.

The commission is a government agency involved in identifying and protecting cultural properties throughout Europe that are of relevance to American heritage. The commission is looking to expand its work in Russia.
