Board of Governors Meeting - 06.15.2010


Chairman Richard Stone opened the June 15, 2010 NCSJ Spring Board of Governors meeting in Washington, D.C., welcoming Board members, ambassadors, diplomats and other guests.

Daniel Russell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, discussed the U.S.-Russia bilateral relationship.


Fred Turner, Chief of Staff at the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, discussed the upcoming OSCE Conference on Tolerance and Non-Discrimination in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Zeyno Baran, Director of the Center for Eurasian Policy and Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute, talked about Turkish politics and Turkey's relations with the United States and Israel.


Herbert Block, Assistant Executive Vice-President at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, discussed restitution of Jewish communal property in the former Soviet Union.

NCSJ Executive Director Mark Levin discussed his recent testimony to Congress on Russia and the Jackson-Vanik Amendment.


NCSJ President Sasha Smukler welcomed the diplomatic corps, which included embassy representatives from the eight of the 15 FSU republics.

Lesley Weiss, Director of Community Services and Cultural Affairs and participant Margarita Lopatina talked about the March 2010 NCSJ Student Advocacy Program in Kyiv, Ukraine (see also: full report).
