European anti-Semitism redux
The Jewish delegation to the Organization for
Security and Cooperation Europe's conference on anti-Semitism last month
in Vienna, met with US deletion head Rudolph Giuliani last week in
Washington to discuss concrete steps European nations should take to
halt the rising tide of anti-Jewish hatred.
The meeting followed Giuliani's post-conference
briefing with Secretary of State Colin Powell, and resulted in the
former New York City mayor sending follow-up letters to European leaders
urging them to monitor anti-Semitic attacks.
Europe is also being asked to utilize NGO groups, in
addition to existing government resources, to halt anti- Semitism,
according to Mark Levin, executive director of NCSJ-Advocates on Behalf
of Jews in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States, and Eurasia, who attended
the meeting. "We're not going to cure the problem, but at least we
can lessen the severity," said Levin.
