Featured Speakers
Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz, Executive Director of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS talked about the renewal and growth of the Jewish communities of the former Soviet Union.
David J. Kramer, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova provided the U.S. government perspective on the latest developments in Russia and Ukraine.
Dr. Michael McFaul, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Stanford University and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Senior Associate, discussed the current political situation in Russia and the prospects for further development of democratic society.

NCSJ Committee Reports
NCSJ President Joel M. Schindler, Ph. D. NCSJ President Joel M. Schindler reported on  discussions of the NCSJ Executive Committee and Board of Governors.


NCSJ Vice-President Lesley Israel NCSJ Vice-President Lesley Israel discussed plans for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Executive Director Mark Levin's association with NCSJ.

Mark Levin, NCSJ Executive Director spoke and Dr. Robert J. Meth, NCSJ Chairman,  about the current status of the Jackson-Vanik Amendment, and announced NCSJ's support for the graduation of Ukraine from the amendment.

National Agency and Community Updates
Lesley Weiss,  NCSJ Director of Community Services and Cultural Affairs Lesley Weiss, NCSJ Director of Community Services and Cultural Affairs, provided updates on NCSJ's partnerships with member agencies and ongoing cooperation with the United Jewish Communities in support of "Operation Promise", a three-year initiative designed to address the pressing needs of Jews in the former Soviet Union, and of Ethiopian Jewry.

Alex Zerden, a junior at Tufts University and a former NCSJ intern, spoke about his participation in a Dnepropetrovsk-Boston Student Leadership Program trip in May, co-sponsored by NCSJ.

Anne Molloy, an NCSJ Board of Governors member, spoke about her attendance at the 2005 World Union for Progressive Judaism Biennial Conference in Moscow, as a representative of its North American Council.
Todd Bernstein, Director of the Marci Lynn Bernstein Charitable Foundation (Pittsburgh, PA) spoke about the Bernstein family foundation's Children's Project in the former Soviet Union.


Theodore Bikel, longtime actor, singer and activist, spoke about his role in the Soviet Jewry movement and his perspective on the needs of Jews in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union today.
