NEW YORK CITY - In a ceremony today, NCSJ
Executive Director Mark B. Levin, received the Order of Merit
citation from The Honorable Victor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine.
The Order of Merit recognizes citizens of foreign countries for their
significant personal contribution to the cause of strengthening the
prestige of Ukraine in the world and the promotion of its historic and
contemporary achievements.
Over the past several years, Mark Levin has led NCSJ's successful
diplomatic efforts with President Yushchenko's government to establish
key policies to protect the religious and political freedoms of
Ukraine's half-million Jewish citizens.
NCSJ's Executive Director since 1992, Mark is one of the organized
Jewish community's leading experts on national and international
political and legislative issues, and has led the community in
supporting financial and technical assistance to the former Soviet
Union.
NCSJ: Advocates on Behalf of Jews in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States &
Eurasia, founded in 1971, represents the organized American Jewish community in monitoring and advocating on behalf of the estimated 1.5 million Jews living in the 15 successor states of the former Soviet Union.
