Biography - Lesley Israel

Lesley Israel, President of NCSJ, previously served NCSJ as a Secretary and Vice-President. She has twice traveled to Ukraine on behalf of NCSJ, to Crimea to train community leaders from across the former Soviet Union and to Kyiv and Dnepropetrovsk with fellow NCSJ leadership. She is Assistant Secretary of the Anti-Defamation League and is a member of the ADL National Executive Committee. She is a former President of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington

 

Ms. Israel serves as Treasurer of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and has either observed or worked as an expert for elections in more than a dozen countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Russia. She also served as Senior Election Officer for the first post-war Bosnian election, seconded by the U.S. State Department to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). She is Treasurer and a Director of Bosnian Handicrafts, a non-profit that generates work for Bosnian war widows. 

As a professional political consultant, Ms. Israel formerly served as President and CEO of Politics, Inc., and as Senior Vice President and Director of the Kamber Group. She served in senior capacities in the U.S. presidential campaigns of Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, and Senators Birch Bayh, Henry M. Jackson, and Edward M. Kennedy. She has also held leadership positions in the Democratic National Committee.
